on updates.. and such.
it’s coming. Well.. been saying that since last year I guess, but unfortunately I’m still caught up in different obligations and things that need to be done. But as soon as I manage I’ll update and uplift this tumblog. :o)

Final proposal for an Arts Center in Cardiff. Acetate, chicken wire. (Term 2)
The idea behind this: Due to high consumerism characterizing most of us today, not that many are interested in the arts or going to exhibitions of any sort, something more common in teens and younger adults. So, my idea was to place a structure that relates to Cardiff as a port and a city surrounded by sea (hence the inspiration drawn from sea-life) and is situated in one of the most common and central spots of the city center. In front of the Library. It will exhibit works by artists in a way that makes it easy for everyone to just pass through and leave, after seeing, even for a brief moment, something related to art. For that reason, entrances and exits are one the same, from three different directions, based on the street that the Library is situated at. The transparent feature of this gallery/center aims to evoke the feeling of it being there for everyone, and not just for a few.
That was my first attempt at making architectural models-in a finished sense. Looking at it after 5 months, I’d probably do some bits differently.. although I still think that the actual idea might have worked. If size and exact place of that structure where defined and decided upon, so that it doesn’t obstruct the Library itself or become another visual nuisance blocking your way.
Maquettes exploring this brief will be posted after this.
“The visible threads that keep me together”
This is my wire outcome for my Obsessive Documentation project (Term 1). I reflected upon all my gathered research and combined it with my chosen object and the result was this. I was thinking of how things are linked together and whether we see those links or not, or if sometimes they just get blurry along the way.
An oil sketch (1 of 10) of Structure 14c by Stephen Gilbert, which was my chosen object from Tate Britain to base my (Term 1) Obsessive Documentation project on. I absolutely loved it, mostly because of its reflective surface and the fact that whichever way you look at it from it’s always a different side of it that you see.
When it comes to abstract 3D pieces I am intrigued. But abstract paintings, is honestly not something I will sit and stare at trying to figure out whether there’s meaning behind a splat of paint or not.
Another page of my sketchbook. I saw this photo of an adorable panda and I sketched it a bit loosely. It still took a considerably long time, which it shouldn’t when it comes to sketches.. but I very much like how it turned out in the end. I also jotted down some obvious comments, as the UK educational system seems to think of those as a “must”. I disagree entirely.. but.. if your goal is to get into a course, I guess you do what you have to in the end.
[a bit older stuff will follow]
The Bacchante is originally a painting by Jean-Léon Gérôme. This is a study of the original painting in 3H graphite pencil and B for the darker areas. Part of my sketchbook II, which I presented when I had my interview at UWIC last year for the Foundation Diploma I’m doing at the moment.
A bird that I made out of the rusty wire we were supposed to use for the Obsessive Documentation project (Term 1). It didn’t get marked, but I sort of like how it turned up. Didn’t really plan for it, but.. it just happened.
So, my interviews are done and I can finally take out the stuff from my folio since it’s falling apart. Now, about my final major project.. I still have waaay to go. And my lack of updating here.. is not very charming. I know. I wanted to keep a timeline as much as possible, but it seems like I won’t manage to do so in the end. Anyway.. time for some updating. :o)
Winter Scene, part of a 12-postcard series with the theme “Four Seasons”, also part of the Case Study, Fine Art Rotation, Term 1.
This is the only one I have scanned for my portfolio so far, everything is mounted in my portfolio, so as soon as I’m done from Brighton in 2 weeks, I’ll scan and upload the rest.
I’m actually very happy with how they turned out, as I haven’t done much painting. These were done only with acrylics and I was very much inspired by the Impressionists. That is one of my favorite art movements, if not my favorite. :o)
I used photo reference for all 12 images, for which I take no credit. They were mostly photos I found here on tumblr and on deviantart. So, credit for those photos, goes respectfully to their righteous owners.
Plaster cube, part of the 3D rotation of the Case Study, Term 1.
(These are supposed to be contained within the customized cardboard suitcase.)
Paper belt. Part of the 3D rotation of the Case study, Term 1.
Cartridge paper and wax. :o)
An update.. finally. :o)
:o) I actually didn’t expect to get any followers on here, but I very much appreciate it! I’ll do my best to upload some work *finally*. 5 weeks of no uni and *yaaay* full-on work for my final major project. Heeh, sounds.. cool-some.
Wishing you guys a fantastic week!! :o)
Weeeell, here’s a first proper submission. An image I put up on flickr as my “image to represent myself” for my application to 3D Design in Brighton Uni (14 images online portfolio).
Photos taken with the school’s Nikon.. something something. I love how they turned up, but I think I’ll book myself for an hour or so for the studio and take advantage of a camera that doesn’t turn it all into blurry purple. :3
I’ll try and take some decent shots so I can pretty-fy my 3D stuff a bit.
Okay, about this. It was our first project for uni on the Foundation Year. “Case Study”. It’s a suitcase made out of cardboard, externally personalized according and internally “dressed up” with a vintage fabric of our choice. We used screen-printing for the fabric and a pocket had to be sewn as well for the Fine Art assignment of the Project. And.. voilà!!!
